FASoS is a colourful and creative community.
The position of Editor/Marketing & Communications Internal & External Adviser, will give you the opportunity to serve as a bridge builder in this community in providing an internal and external communications structure, with means like the FASoS website and news sections, the FASoS Weekly, the FASoS intranet and others yet to be created by you. You will provide advice in the areas of website, text, image and video.

The main tasks of this position:

  • You are responsible for the development and successful execution and evaluation of communication plans, and activities that contribute to the faculties’ strategic goals and targets related to internal and external communication.

  • You development internal and external communications-related content (text, photos, video, etc.) for mainly online materials.

  • Your focus lies on research communications; you will acquaint yourself with the research developed at FASoS and you will develop ways to communicate this research in an accessible way to the FASoS community and the public at large. You work closely together with the FASoS’ Research Support Office.

  • You provide advice to academic staff on how they can best present their work, and in this context you also write and edit (web)texts. You update the website’s research structure, content and relevant social media. This also includes monitoring response and adjusting efforts whenever needed.

  • You closely collaborate with the university’s central press department and editorial team.

  • You participate actively as a member of UM-wide tactical corporate communication groups (e.g. internal communications, newsroom).

Starting date: 1 October 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

  • You have strong communicative skills, and sound proficiency in oral and written language, both in Dutch and in English (C1 level).

Salary scale: the position of Editor/Marketing & Communications Internal & External Adviser is ranked as Editor, level 4 (UFO profile), salary scale 9.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) has about 250 staff members, and about 1,600 students. More than 76% of the students are non-Dutch (64 different nationalities). All programmes are offered in English and some are also offered in Dutch. FASoS offers three 3-year bachelor’s programmes: Arts and Culture, European Studies and a new 3rd bachelor’s programme ‘Digital Society’. It also offers eight different 1-year Master’s programmes and two 2-year research master’s programmes.

Research is organised around four programmes: Politics and Culture in Europe; Science, Technology and Society Studies; Arts, Media and Culture; and Globalisation, Transnationalism and Development. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is housed in the historic city centre of Maastricht.

The FASoS’ Marketing & Communications (M&C) team is looking for an enthusiastic colleague to strengthen the team. The M&C team consists of six persons, of which one is the editor/adviser internal and external communications. The M&C team closely cooperates with the shared Marketing & Communications department and other clusters within the faculty.

The M&C department develops and carries out M&C activities in line with the objectives formulated for undergraduate and graduate education as well as research conducted under the auspices of the various departments and institutes, the Research Institute for Arts and Social Sciences and the Graduate School at FASoS. Strategic spearheads include ensuring quality and innovation in the primary processes of education and research as well as developing and maintaining relations with relevant external stakeholders.
