Job description

GSE laboratory is seeking a highly skilled technician who is ready to take on challenging specialized technical support to research groups in the design, development, manufacture, maintenance and installation of scientific instruments and research laboratory or field equipment.

Typical duties include managing of equipment and assisting scientific staff (PhD, Postdoc and professors) in their plans of realizing state-of-the-art development of scientific instruments and experimental setups. This includes supporting staff with component design, electronic prototyping, programming and testing. The ability to thrive and actively participate in a fast developing collaborative research environment is key.

Requirements

The candidate should have a profound background in mechatronics, or willingness to develop one. An engineering degree in a closely related field and affinity with electronics and programming are required. In addition, the successful candidate should demonstrate experience in developing and maintaining embedded control software solutions for multi-agent system applications and experimental testing, such as the use of customized, or commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components.

The following qualifications are needed:

  • HBO or equivalent engineering degree.
  • Good understanding of electrical and mechatronic design concepts.
  • Practical knowledge of experimental laboratories.
  • Practices, such as 3D printing and development and/or willing to learn and develop these practices.
  • Familiarity with design software such as SolidWorks, Zemax, among others, and/or willing to develop these software skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of programming languages Labview, Matlab/Simulink Real-Time, Python, Java, C/C++ will be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch and in English.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and work in a team.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Temporarly one year, with the prospect of permanent.

This position has an amount of 38-40 working hours per week (1,0 fte). It is a temporary employment contract for a period of 1 year with the prospect of permanent. The salary is based on scale 8 with a maximum of €3445,- gross per month on a fulltime basis. You will be classified on the basis of knowledge and experience. Besides of course the holiday allowance in May, you will receive an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% in December. You can also compile a part of your terms of employment package yourself with the help of the Individual Terms and Conditions package, including buying and selling leave hours. An International Children’s Centre offers child care and an international primary school. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
