Job description

We are looking for a medical biological technician within the division of Human Nutrition and Health. The candidate will have a dual role and contribute to both research and education. The education focusses on supervising Msc thesis students in the lab and teaching them laboratory skills. The research focusses on intestinal permeability investigated in vitro in cultured porcine intestinal organoids. The candidate will take initiative and be actively involved in the setup of the research and the supervision of the Msc students on the lab. For the research this includes the set up and maintenance of the culturing of the intestinal organoid system.

To fill in this research and education technician profile we are looking for a highly motivated medical biological technician.

We are looking for a lab professional with following background:
Technician (HLO) with a background in medical biology
Experienced in:
  • Cell culture and in vitro techniques;
  • Molecular biological techniques;
  • Biotechnical techniques.
highly validated:
  • Experience with organoids;
  • Experience with teaching;
  • Article 12 qualification.

  • three years or more of working experience is highly validated.

Conditions of employment

A challenging position (30 - 38 hours) for 3 years (first a contract for 1 year with the possibility to extend for 2 years). You will receive, depending on your experience, a competitive salary from a minimum of
€ 2261,-. to a maximum of € 3445,-. for a full working week of 38 hours in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement Dutch Universities (scale 7/8).

Division of Human Nutrition
The mission of the Division of Human Nutrition and Health is to generate and exchange knowledge in the area of nutrition and health-in interaction with peers and partners-by excellent education and research. The Division consists of five chair groups that form a single organizational unit with shared infrastructure and resources: Sensory Science and Eating Behaviour, Global Nutrition, Nutritional Biology, Nutrition and Disease, and Nutrition Metabolism and Genomics. The technician will be placed within the group of dr Mark Boekschoten for the educational part and in Nutritional Biology in the group of dr Klaske van Norren for the research part. Dr Klaske van Norren focusses on mechanisms and pathways that induce changes in body composition during disease that have a negative impact on the patients wellbeing, morbidity and mortality. The research related with this job focusses on the role of the gut brain axis on body composition.
