Job description

The Executive Board of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) is looking for a Europe policy officer who can start on 1 November 2019.

As policy officer, you will contribute to the EPICUR partnership, a European alliance within the European Commission's European Universities programme. EPICUR involves a partnership between eight European universities and aims to realise close cooperation in education. During the pilot phase, this cooperation will focus on Liberal Arts and Sciences as well as the Humanities. You will support the Director of International Affairs and the Executive Board, the Rector Magnificus in particular, with formulating and realising UvA activities within EPICUR. Together with colleagues at the UvA and from the EPICUR partner universities, you will be expected to translate strategic goals into concrete initiatives, taking the implementation of the results into account. Alongside colleagues from the relevant faculties and partner universities, you will help to turn EPICUR into a success.

Your tasks will focus on EPICUR. In addition, you will carry out a number of other policy tasks within the Internationalisation team and Academic Affairs department.

You will work closely with colleagues from the Internationalisation team, as well as with stakeholders such as the faculties, Student Services, Communications Office and Executive Staff departments.

Requirements

As our ideal candidate you have:

  • completed an academic degree programme;
  • broad knowledge of and interest in internationalisation within Higher Education, including at a European level (e.g. the development of the European Education Area);
  • good project management skills and are capable of working in a structured as well as systematic manner;
  • the ability to develop a network, both within an organisation and in an international context;
  • excellent verbal and written communicative skills in both Dutch and English. Command of other European languages is an advantage;
  • demonstrable intercultural skills and international experience from studying and/or working abroad.

Your personal traits: analytical, independent, enterprising, convincing, decisive, accurate, pragmatic and good at networking.

Conditions of employment

We offer an initial appointment of one year that can be extended to three years (the duration of the EPICUR project) after a positive assessment. 

Depending on work experience, the salary will range between €2,709 and €4,978 per month based on a full-time employment (38 hours per week, scale 10 or 11). The UvA has an extensive package of secondary benefits, including a generous holiday and end of year allowance. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.

Department

Executive Board

The Executive Board of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) is supported by a compact Executive Staff department. The Executive Staff advises the Board at a strategic and tactical level, and is also responsible for the operationalisation of decisions taken. Their tasks are directly related to the tasks of the Executive Board. There are three clusters of Executive Staff: General Executive Management and Legal Affairs, the Operational Management Office, and Policy and Strategy Development.

Academic Affairs

The Academic Affairs department, which is part of the Policy and Strategy Development cluster, deals with the policy areas of education, research and internationalisation. Employees working in the field of internationalisation are expected to possess expertise in relation to multiple aspects of this broad range of duties and be able to express the links between different aspects as part of their work.
