Job description

You will be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher at the Artificial Intelligence (AI) department of the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour. You will co-develop our research line on Cognitive AI, where the aim is to mimic natural intelligence in machines. To this end, you will develop biologically inspired cognitive architectures that are able to solve challenging tasks in simulated environments. Part of your responsibilities is to provide administrative and hands-on support to the head of department (Prof. van Gerven) on tasks related to Cognitive AI research and teaching within the department.

Requirements

  • a PhD degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computational Neuroscience, Computer Science or a related discipline;
  • a proven interest in understanding the computational mechanisms underlying natural intelligence;
  • highly experienced in techniques relevant to natural computing (rate-based / spiking neural networks, reinforcement learning, evolutionary strategies) and preferably a background in neuroscience;
  • excellent mathematical and programming skills (particularly Python & PyTorch);
  • an excellent track record in scientific research, as evidenced by publications in top-tier conferences and journals;
  • excellent spoken and written skills in English;
  • enthusiasm and the ability to work in a team.

Conditions of employment

  • employment: 1.0 FTE
  • a maximum gross monthly salary of € 4,978 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 11)
  • in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus
  • you will be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher for an initial period of one year, after which your performance will be evaluated. If the evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended by another year
  • you will be classified as a Postdoctoral Researcher, Level 3 (Onderzoeker) in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO)
  • you will be able to make use of our Dual Career Service where our Dual Career Officer will assist with family related support, such as child care, and help your partner prepare for the local labour market and with finding an occupation

 
Intended start date is 1 October 2019.
