Job description

The UvA’s Faculty of Science is launching a major recruitment campaign called ‘Connecting Science’ in the areas of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science. Our ambition is to attract top talent from all over the world to a large number of newly created faculty positions in a wide range of exciting scientific directions. We offer a stimulating environment and excellent conditions for research, tightly connected to challenging educational programmes.

We are looking for ambitious and motivated scientists to connect different scientific disciplines. Our goal is to have a maximal impact on science and society.

What are you going to do?

We are looking for a strongly hardware-oriented candidate who has demonstrable expertise in semiconductor detectors. You are expected to take a leading role within the R&D group at Nikhef to work on the advancement of knowledge and innovation of instrumentation in (astro)particle physics. Specifically, the development of fast detectors with pixelised hybrid or monolithic sensors will bring strong connections between the R&D group and our Physics research groups such as ATLAS, LHCb and ALICE, or those preparing for experiments at future colliders.

Nikhef is currently involved in the Timepix/Medipix collaborations to develop readout ASICs for pixel detectors. You will play a leading role within the R&D group on technology development in collaboration with technical universities, research institutes, and industry. You will participate in education for PhD’s and in education for bachelor and master students within the joint UvA/VU physics programmes.
