Job description

The Chien Lab is looking for a self-motivated PhD student with a strong interest in working in a multidisciplinary lab. The candidate will apply the technologies developed in Dr. Chien's group, including advanced imaging and single cell sequencing analysis, to patient-derived primary cultures to investigate molecular mechanisms of tumorigenesis. The candidate will also develop 2D and 3D organoid primary cultures and apply genetic engineering methods (i.e., CRISPR-Cas9) to study the effect of target genes in cancer development.

The successful candidate preferentially has a background in Cancer Biology, Biotechnology, Systems Biology and/or Bioinformatics. The candidate will interact with a diverse group of faculty in optics, bioengineering, biomedical and cell biology, and will be able to collaborate with leading laboratories at Erasmus MC, The CancerGenomiCs.nl consortium, The Oncode Institute and Delft University of Technology.

Requirements

The successful candidate has a BSc or MSc in a relevant discipline (such as Biomedical Research, Biotechnology, System Biology, Bioinformatics) with a record that reflects individual accomplishment. A strong command of scientific English in speech and writing is essential. Experience in Bioinformatics is a plus!

Being able to present a certificate of good conduct, a valid proof of identity, diploma's and/ or relevant registration such as BIG/ RGS are conditions for the appointment.

Conditions of employment

You will receive a temporary position for 4 years. The gross monthly salary is € 2.422 ,- in the 1st year and increases to € 3.103,- in the 4th year (scale OIO). The terms of employment are according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Dutch University Medical Centers (CAO UMC).
