Job description

We are searching for a full professor (0.8 - 1.0 fte) to lead the chair group Nematology at Wageningen University & Research, one of the world's leading universities working on food, health and environment.

The Nematology group studies the biology of nematodes with the aim of understanding and predicting their function in agricultural and natural ecosystems. The group focuses on hypothesis-driven research on the molecular and genetic interactions between nematodes and their environment, including both biotic (e.g., bacteria, plants and animals) and abiotic factors (e.g., temperature and drought). The research encompasses both ecology and molecular biology. The full 'leeropdracht' (chair description) of the Nematology chair position is available on request.

Nematology is part of the Plant Sciences Group of Wageningen University & Research, one of five science groups at Wageningen. Withing the Plant Sciences Group 18 chair groups and 7 applied research groups work together. Nematology actively participates in two Graduate Schools, Experimental Plant Sciences (EPS) and Production Ecology and Resource Conservation (PE&RC).

We are looking for a scholar with a PhD degree in a relevant research field to lead the chair group Nematology. As a successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate your capacity for strategic leadership with a scientific track record of publications, teaching and funding acquisition. In addition, you have an inspiring, collegiate, and unifying leadership style characterized by a passion to coach professionals, to build teams and to find opportunities to collaborate.

  • You have an inspiring, long-term vision on the development of the field of nematology.
  • You have excellent interpersonal and networking skills as demonstrated by a broad international network.
  • You are an inspiring teacher and supervisor for students from diverse backgrounds, with the ability to develop courses at Bachelor, Master, and PhD level, and an interest, vision and capacity to develop and apply innovative teaching methods.
  • You have a demonstrable capacity to obtain research funding.
