Job description

As a project manager, you will work mainly within the research project ‘Technique in the Arts: Practices, Concepts, Expertise, 1500-1950’ (ARTECHNE). This project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC), by way of a Consolidator Grant awarded to principal investigator Prof Sven Dupré. The project undertakes the experimental reconstruction of historical recipes to open the black box of the transmission of technique in the visual and decorative arts. Considering ‘technique’ as a textual, material and social practice, the team members write a long-term history of the theory and practice of the study of ‘technique’ in the visual and decorative arts between 1500 and 1950.

You will work in close collaboration with and report to the principal investigator of the project, and you will regularly engage with research partners and the ERC. The project manager will take care of all administrative and financial matters relating to the project, and handle project communication and event coordination.

Main tasks and responsibilities include:

  • providing publication support, such as editing tasks and managing the correct delivery of images and permissions;
  • managing the project finances, including assistance with periodical financial reports and drawing up and monitoring budgets;
    • managing the day-to-day operations of the research project;
    • providing all-round administrative support;
    • monitoring the implementation of the Grant Agreement concluded with the ERC;
    • organising network meetings and monthly Technical Art History colloquia;
    • internal and external communication, including the maintenance of project websites, social media accounts and a newsletter.
