As an assistant professor, your role will include undertaking research within the field of Urban and Regional Economics or related research fields such as Transport Economics, International Economics, Development Economics or Economic Geography. You have the ability to conduct high quality, original research and to publish in high-ranked international journals. You will contribute to the courses in the BSc and MSc programmes offered by the department of Applied Economics and the supervision of bachelor’s and master’s theses. This calls for excellent teaching skills and the ability to supervise students to a successful completion of their programme.

Successful applicants are near completion or have completed a Ph.D., are able to demonstrate the potential for outstanding achievements in research and teaching, and are team players. A tenure decision will be made after five years, with the possibility of extension in case of pregnancy.

The appointment initially is a six-year position. The conditions of employment comply with the ‘CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten/Collective Agreement Netherlands Universities (CAO NU)’. Salary will be within the range of salary scale 10 when not having obtained PhD, to salary scale 11 for a full time appointment. The Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) has attractive employment conditions, which include a holiday allowance of 8.0%, and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%. The salary includes several secondary benefits (such as a pension plan that is partially funded by the university and health care insurance). Applied Economics

The Department of Applied Economics is one of the four departments at Erasmus School of Economics. The researchers within the Department are organised in three research groups, i.e. Organisation, Strategy & Entrepreneurship Economics, Behavioural Economics, and Health Economics.

Urban and Regional Economics 

At Erasmus School of Economics, research in Applied Micro-Economics, International Economics, Transport Economics and Development Economics has a strong embedding in the growing discipline of Urban and Regional Economics research. The research group on Urban and Regional Economics is embedded within the group of Organisation, Strategy, and Entrepreneurship within the Department of Applied Economics. The research and teaching of Urban and Regional Economics focus on locational decision making and modelling of firms and households, transport economics, housing and real-estate economics, identification of place-based and network-based effects in economic development and growth, and the interrelation with sustainable development, urban and regional governance and policy. Research has a relatively large potential of societal impact. Research is published in high-impact journals of economic interest as well as in dedicated field journals in urban economics, regional science and economic geography. Teaching is mainly concentrated in the Major and Master programs in “Urban, Port, and Transport Economics” that are offered by Erasmus School of Economics.
