Job description

The prospective study advisor is responsible within the programme team 'Food' for:
  • providing information to students with regard to their education, both individually and in groups.
  • supervising students in relation to their study career and providing solicited and unsolicited advice to students regarding choices within their study program.
  • monitoring students' study progress and supporting the student in solving study-related problems and advising on study skills.
  • mediate if necessary about individual arrangements for students.
  • if necessary, referring students to the Student Counseling Service (GP, psychologist and counsellors).
  • assessing individual study packages under the mandate of the Examination Board and, where necessary, consulting and advising the Examination Board.
  • contribute in the team to internal and external information activities (lunch lectures, Open Days).
  • actively keep abreast of relevant developments regarding the study program and study advice, through participation in university-wide consultation and training for study advisors.

Requirements

  • MSc degree in a relevant field (food technology, nutrition or similar natural sciences area)
  • Clear affinity with food technology or related field
  • Good communication skills, affinity with questions and problems of students, a customer-oriented attitude.
  • Problem solving ability.
  • A careful, reliable and honest style and an independent and flexible working attitude.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • The study advisor becomes a member of the National Association of Study Advisors through the employer and endorses their code of conduct.
  • Due to the composition of the team, preference is given to a male candidate.

Conditions of employment

This team is responsible for the BSc Food Technology and the MSc programmes Food Technology, Food Safety and Food Quality Management. In total these programs have around 1250 students, of whom around 50% are non-Dutch students from approx.. 50 nationalities. The four programmes are all fully taught in English. The team consists of the program director, 7 other (part-time) study advisors and a secretary.
