Job description

The Institute for Subatomic Physics at Utrecht University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research position in gravitational wave data analysis and phenomenology, covering all aspects of strong-field gravity, with an emphasis on studying gravitational wave signals from coalescing binary neutron stars and black holes. This effort is led by Prof. Dr. C. Van Den Broeck; it currently involves 4 Postdocs and 4 PhD candidates and will grow significantly over the coming year. 
Apart from collaboration within the Institute for Subatomic Physics, the gravitational waves team at Utrecht University has close ties with researchers at universities and institutes across the Netherlands, which apart from instrumentalists includes astronomers, astrophysicists, and theorists. There is also vibrant collaboration with individuals and groups around the world. The successful candidate will become a member of the Virgo Collaboration and have access to all data from the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo interferometers.

Requirements

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in Physics or a closely related field, and preferably has prior experience in gravitational wave data analysis.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, curious and collaborative candidate with a PhD in Physics or a closely related field.

The candidate preferably has prior experience in gravitational wave data analysis.

You have good English language skills and a track record of relevant peer-reviewed publications.

Conditions of employment

This is a temporary appointment of 1.0 FTE for the duration of two years. Upon a positive performance the appointment will be extended with a period of one year.
The minimum gross salary ranges between €3,255 and €4,978 gross per month (scale 10/11 of the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities), depending on previous qualifications and experience, for a full-time employment.

In addition, we offer attractive and flexible secondary terms of employment such as an annual holiday pay of 8%, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% per year and partially paid parental leave.
