Job description

We are looking to hire a research technician interested in working across analytical and preparative domains of protein science. We are a biochemistry- and proteomics-centric research group. Please find out more details here:

Major day-to-day duties are somewhat flexible to the successful applicant’s prior skill set and professional development goals. Typical routine duties may include e.g. cell culture, protein complex purification, and mass spectrometry sample work up.

Requirements

The research technician will be part of a young and enthusiastic research group and should meet the following requirements:
- Required education/skills: B.S. or M.S. in Molecular/Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related-field
- Expertise in mammalian cell culture and routine molecular biology techniques
- Candidates that also possess experience with isothermal (Gibson) assembly, CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering, and/or immunofluorescence microscopy will be given advantaged consideration
- Should be highly organized, collaborative, enthusiastic, and ambitious
- Communication and networking skills are mandatory
- Good knowledge of English

The UMCG has a preventive Hepatitis B policy. The UMCG can provide you with the vaccination, should it be required for your position.

In case of specific professions a ‘Certificate of Good Conduct’ is required.

Conditions of employment

Your salary will be a maximum of € 3.184,- gross per month (scale 7), depending on your qualifications and relevant experience, based on a full-time appointment.
In addition, the UMCG will offer you 8% holiday pay and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
The terms of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centers (CAO-UMC).

Employment basis: temporary for specified period (1,0 fte = 36 hours per week). The duration of the initial contract will be one years with the possibility of extension for another year, contingent upon performance and available funding.

ERIBA

An opening is available in the Macromolecules and Interactomes group, headed by Dr. John LaCava. The ERIBA is a newly established institute at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). The central theme at the ERIBA is the molecular mechanism of (cellular) ageing. We aim to identify physiological and molecular changes that can explain the loss of cells and functional decline of cells and tissues with age. For this, we make use of state-of-the-art technology and a variety of model organisms. Furthermore, we heavily invest in Systems Biology to integrate our findings within the scope of various models and mechanisms of ageing that have been proposed. The ERIBA is housed in a brand-new building and part of the central UMCG campus in central Groningen, a small (200,000 inhabitants) but vibrant city (with over 25,000 students) in the north of the Netherlands.
