Department

Center for Information Technology

Help us bring more data science to all university research disciplines and join our team. You get to help biologists use CNN's on their microscopy data, use BERT to analyse tweets of politicians, or assist radiologists by segmenting their medical images. In short, you get to do what you think works best to help our (inter)national researchers.

Who are we?
The University of Groningen is one of the top European research universities. It is internationally oriented and socially responsible organization. It is a platform for researchers and teachers from a multitude of fields to share their passion and expertise. Both students and the university staff are stimulated to grow, develop their talents, follow their ambitions, and to give the best of their ability. The Center for Information Technology (CIT) of the University of Groningen is a leading national and European expertise center in the field of information and communication technology (ICT). With around 250 employees, CIT manages the necessary facilities and supporting processes for approximately 31,000 students and 5,600 employees. The CIT is a partner in projects at a regional and (inter)national level in many disciplines, like astronomy, life sciences, digital humanities, energy, health and more. Data science and artificial intelligence will be important topics at the University of Groningen for the upcoming years.

Our core values are respect, collegiality, together, fun, openness and commitment.

Scientists from all disciplines are eager to get involved in data science. Therefore, our Data Science team has grown tremendously in the last three years. New advances in deep neural networks, but also
well-established machine learning and statistical techniques, open up questions that researchers without knowledge of TensorFlow, scikit-learn, R, and other tools cannot answer, even though they have collected interesting data. Besides supporting scientific research, a smaller part of our tasks include teaching professionals and students. Our courses are often graded above 9 out of 10. You would join our team of 10 members with backgrounds in machine learning, statistics, computer vision, business development, psychology and economics.
