Job description

Are you interested in contributing to a greater diversity of crops on farms in Europe by bringing together different sources of knowledge? In breaking the dominance of monocultures and narrow rotations by effectively joining actors across value chains? And in helping societal actors overcome barriers and lock-ins in the process?
The DiverIMPACTS research project aims to realize the potential of low-input crop diversification by investigating technical, environmental and economic performance of crop diversification strategies at farm, value chain and territorial levels and by supporting rural actors with innovations that remove existing barriers. The project is built around 25 case studies on crop diversification in Europe in which actors are involved in overcoming current lock-ins on a few commodity crops in both conventional and organic production systems and value chains. Innovation in the case studies is structured through the multi-actor co-innovation approach. Scientific knowledge generated in the project through experiments and analytical work is connected to case studies' knowledge needs. The DiverIMPACTS project is funded by the European Union (Horizon 2020) and comprises 34 partner organizations from research, extension and agricultural enterprises. The project has run for 2.5 years and will run for another 2.5 years. Within this project you will act as monitor of a number of case studies and of selected cluster leaders who support the work in 5 clusters of 5 case studies each. You will use the information obtained on the case studies to analyze and compare progress towards their goals and understand in which way the contexts of the case studies and the project support the aspired sustainability transitions. The research setting is thus action-oriented where the innovation process is supported reflexively, resulting in enhanced insight into how to combine scientific knowledge in innovation.
You will work closely with a postdoc in the project involved in the co-innovation approach in the project. In addition, you will work within the 'learning-for-innovation platform' which stimulates interaction among the case studies and scientific work packages in DiverIMPACTS and is composed of professionals from the DiverIMPACTS project.
