Major duties are to:

• pro-actively maintain an effective, global network with scientists, policy makers and practitioners in the field of sustainable land management;
• design ISRIC's strategy in the field of Sustainable Land Management, in line with ISRIC overall strategy;
• develop and coordinate projects aimed at supporting sustainable land management;
• cooperate closely (in project acquisition and implementation) with users, clients, funders and colleagues at ISRIC;
• participate in the Steering Committee of WOCAT (the World Overview of Conservation Technologies and Approaches) and promote/apply WOCAT methodologies in upcoming projects.

Required

• at least a MSc degree in e.g. physical geography, agronomy, environmental science or soil science. Although we are not looking for a researcher, a scientific track record in sustainable land management or soil fertility is considered an asset;
• significant experience (> 7 years) in sustainable land management / soil fertility projects at national, regional and global scales;
• proven track record in acquiring large international projects, preferably in the field of combatting land degradation and sustainable land management;
• a relevant and active international network;
• good communication skills and ability to effectively engage with users and clients as well as with specialists;
• good command of English and preferably other languages (e.g. French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese);
• willingness to travel frequently when needed.

Desired:

• Affinity with (or experience in) spatial mapping techniques, preferably in the context of sustainable land management and/or soil fertility management.

A challenging temporary position for a period of 3 years with possibilities for a permanent position. Depending on your experience, a competitive salary of between € 4406 and € 6133 gross per month, for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Wageningen University CLA (scale 12-13). A part-time assignment of 4 days per week is negotiable. Applicants with non-Dutch citizenship may qualify for tax reduction over 3 years.
