Job description

The Department of Macro, International and Labour Economics (MILE) at the School of Business and Economics (SBE) of Maastricht University is looking for an experienced, senior economist who will be able to take a leading role in strengthening research and education in the area of International Economics at SBE. Preferably, the candidate should have a profile focusing on applied research in the areas of the international mobility of goods (trade), capital (FDI) and labour and/or global value chains. The position can be filled either at the full professor level or the senior associate professor level. In the latter case, a career track towards full professorship will be defined.

A suitable candidate should have an excellent track record of publishing in international academic journals, teaching and acquiring independent research funding. The candidate should be willing to take a leading role in the department’s research activities by supervising PhD students and mentoring younger scholars in an open and inclusive manner. Ideally, the candidate’s research activities should also contribute to the university-wide research theme “Europe in a Globalizing World” as well as SBE’s research themes “Globalization” and/or “Sustainable development”.

We expect the candidate to be able to play a leading role in the further development of the domain of international economics within MILE, SBE and Maastricht University at large in all dimensions: research, teaching - including post-graduate programs - and the creation of societal impact. We expect teaching to be research-based and research to be relevant in a broad sense: contributing to advancing academic knowledge as well as to being policy relevant and creating societal impact. We are looking for a team player and a team builder, who is also willing to fulfil senior administrative/managerial tasks. Within the department, teamwork and good citizenship are highly valued. We expect any candidate to create significant synergies and positive externalities, both within the department and SBE.

 

Conditions of employment

Remuneration will depend on the profile, which is for Associate Professor between gross monthly salary € 5039  and € 6738 and for full Professor between € 5582 and € 9812 (based on a full-time appointment). Each year the standard salary is supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.

You have to be willing to move to (the vicinity of) Maastricht. Depending on your personal situation, you will be eligible for an allowance for moving costs. Other secondary conditions include a pension scheme and partially paid parental leave.
