Job description

Do you have a background in veterinary medicine and are you interested in becoming a veterinary microbiologist? Do you want to take on a new challenge in an inspiring and dynamic environment? Then apply for the Veterinary Microbiology programme at WBVR in Lelystad, part of Wageningen University & Research!

Preventing and combating animal diseases contributes to healthy animal husbandry and reduces the risk of zoonotic diseases in humans. This calls for a good understanding of animal diseases, for which animal diagnostics is essential. To ensure high-quality expertise and diagnostics both now and in the future, we are looking for motivated veterinarians who are interested in specialising in veterinary bacteriology, with a specific focus on diagnostics.

What we are looking for
As a veterinary microbiologist in training, you will further specialise in the field of veterinary microbiology and diagnostics. You will work at the Department of Bacteriology on various tasks and projects related to bacterial infections. You will acquire specialised knowledge of the pathogenesis, diagnostics, clinical treatment and epidemiology of various endemic diseases and diseases subject to mandatory reporting, and you will learn how to advise clients and governments accordingly.

A veterinary microbiology training plan will be developed based on your knowledge and experience. During the programme, you will intern at research and diagnostics laboratories within and outside Wageningen Bioveterinary Research. You will also take several discipline-specific courses. The training plan will be submitted to the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation for approval, to allow for international recognition as a specialist in the future. Preparing for a PhD track is also among the possibilities.
