The Cybersecurity (CYS) group at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) carries out research that contributes to the very latest technology in the fields of computer security and artificial intelligence (AI). Examples include the development of learning algorithms that can handle large network data flows, deep learning methods that are immune to common side-channel defences, machine learning algorithms that can operate on encrypted data, and analysis of the latest security threats.
The position focuses on the theory and practice of security problems of networked devices, covering IT, OT and IoT security. This may cover the detection of adversary behaviour – for instance through using streaming data or large quantities of software logs – and/or the design of measures to improve cybersecurity resilience. Our ambition is to go beyond today’s approaches to detect individual cyber incidents and measures against global persistent adversaries. We are looking for a specialist in modern network security, who also can contribute to practical cybersecurity approaches such as capturing the flag and processing large scale network data sets to complement our existing expertise in research and education.
You have a completed PhD degree (or equivalent) from a top university with excellent grades in IT security, computer science, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, or a similar field.
The candidate has a strong international network in academia and innovation-oriented companies. (S)he will contribute to strengthening of collaborations within the TU Delft cybersecurity ecosystem, as well as with external (international) partners. In addition to furthering her or his own research portfolio, the candidate has the ambition to strengthen the collaboration among our faculty members of the cybersecurity group, and with related research groups, companies and government agencies.
(S)he is expected to participate in education, research, and administrative tasks in a 40% : 40% : 20% time share. As TU Delft has a strong international orientation, the command of the English language should be at least at proficiency level C1. The candidate’s soft skills are very well developed, especially leadership, teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
You are self-motivated, reliable, creative, able to discuss/write/present scientific results in English, and able to conduct excellent research on challenging scientific problems with practical relevance.
You also like working in a team environment.

For candidates at the Assistant Professor level we offer an initial temporary position with the prospect of a permanent contract. The duration of the temporary position is depending on (academic) experience. At the start of your employment, section leader, department leader and you will agree upon expected performance and (soft) skills as part of a development plan. You will receive formal feedback on performance and skills during annual assessment meetings and during a formal evaluation after a maximum of 2.5 years. If the performance and skills are evaluated positively during this formal evaluation, you will be employed in a permanent Assistant Professor position.
For candidates at the Associate Professor level we offer an initial temporary position with the prospect of a permanent contract. The duration of the temporary position is a maximum of 1 year. After a positive performance assessment, you will be employed in a permanent Associate Professor position.
The salary range for an Assistant Professor position is 3.637 – 5.656 euro gross per month. The salary range for an Associate Professor position is 5.039 – 6.738 euro gross per month. Starting salary for Assistant and Associate Professor is based on level of knowledge and (postdoctoral) experience.

The mission of the Department of Intelligent Systems (INSY) is to enable humans and machines to deal with the increasing volume and complexity of data and communications. Within INSY, the Multimedia Computing section focuses on the development and evaluation of algorithms for enriching, accessing, and searching large quantities of data. The focus is on innovative systems that are oriented to the needs of users, enabling satisfying and personalized interactions with large collections of data. The group combines expertise in information retrieval, recommender systems, multimedia, signal processing, social network analysis, and quality of experience. The group is currently expanding as a result of successful funding acquisition, and provides a young and vibrant environment to work in.
