Job description

Leiden Observatory invites applications for a Program Manager position at the European ALMA Regional Center node in the Netherlands, Allegro. The position will be filled at an Assistant or Associate Research Scientist level. The position includes a 50% allocation for independent research.

The Program Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of Allegro and is expected to take an active role in the tasks of the node. These include user support, data quality control, organization of workshops and training, and development of new methods for obtaining, processing and analyzing ALMA data. In addition, the Program Manager is expected to conduct an active independent research program involving ALMA.

Requirements

  • A PhD in astronomy or related field;
  • Extensive expertise with ALMA data and/or similar interferometers;
  • A strong track record in astronomical research including the use of ALMA;
  • Strong managerial and communication skills.

Conditions of employment

We offer a full-time position for an initial period up to 4 years. Continuation of employment after that period depends on availability of funding, and on qualifications and performance of the candidate. Depending on experience the salary can range from € 2.709,-  to € 4.978-,  gross per month (pay scale 10 / 11 in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities).
