Job description

The Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TPM) invites applications for a tenure-track position as assistant professor in Energy and Transport Systems. The position is established within the Engineering Systems and Services (ESS) department, where education and research on Energy and Transport Systems take place. The department contributes to one BSc and three MSc programmes at the TPM Faculty and to three joint MSc programmes with other faculties at TU Delft or Leiden University. ESS hosts energy system experts, industry (decarbonization), mobility (passenger as well as freight) and ICT experts (cyber, distributed systems, IT architectures), as well as choice modelling and decision-making scholars. This combination of expertise guarantees that the cross-sectoral and socio-technical characteristics of the coupling of energy transition and transport system innovations are addressed.  

In this position, you will be expected to:

  • Contribute to the educational programmes of the department
  • Perform research in the field of Energy and Transport Systems
  • Interact with a wide range of national and international stakeholders including energy and transport experts, external partners as well as policy makers

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with an interdisciplinary track record to focus on system challenges (engineering and/or economic/governance) of Energy and Transport systems. Supported by your colleagues, you will teach and develop educational courses in the domain of Energy and/or Transport Systems. We expect the candidate to have an appreciation of scientific and engineering challenges in the coupling of these two sectors. You will contribute to the collaborative mentality of the department by your ability to inspire colleagues and students through teaching, research, creativity and management skills.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: tenure track (6 years with the prospect of a permanent contract).

Faculty Technology, Policy and Management

The Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TPM) contributes to sustainable solutions for technological challenges in society by combining the insights from engineering with the humanities and the social sciences. The assistant professor will be positioned in the Engineering Systems and Services (ESS) department. The core activity of the department is to model, understand, forecast, and shape emerging technological innovations and user patterns in the increasingly interconnected sectors of energy, industry, mobility and ICT; and use these insights for improved design, regulation and operation of such engineering systems. ESS aims to contribute to the scholarly debate at the highest international level, and is rooted in both engineering and social sciences. We provide excellent teaching based on our comprehensive systems engineering approach to international and national BSc and MSc students, professionals and via online educational resources (e.g. MOOCs). Teaching activities are supported by a team of educational advisors and a first class (digital) infrastructure.
