Alumni Communications Officer

at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR).

You will develop and deliver integrated communications to our network of 130,000+ international alumni with a focus on increasing the reach and effectiveness of digital communications.

Our alumni communications campaigns must champion the objectives and messaging of EUR. They should also reflect the preferences and interests of our stakeholders, and be informed by research, feedback and rigorous analysis of online communications performance. That’s why you should be an excellent networker within the university, as well as externally in our alumni network.

You’ll act as an alumni communications consultant for others from  the university that communicate with our community. You’ll be the creator  of the communications planning and process, and you will help to deliver best practice for alumni communications; you ensure the delivery of coherent messaging and an appropriate tone of voice for our alumni audience. 

Working from an office within RSM in partnership with fellow alumni professionals you will be leading the way in the creation of a first-class Alumni Relations service for Erasmus University Rotterdam. As Alumni Communications Officer, you will report to the Director Alumni Relations for EUR and RSM.

Your main tasks

  • Develop and deliver long-term and annual communications campaigns according to a comprehensive plan for co-ordinating the alumni communications output of EUR
  • Source and co-ordinate alumni-focused content for EUR publications, in liaison with copywriters and designers
  • Analyse results to ensure the continuous improvement of our alumni communications programme
  • Source and follow-up on PR opportunities which showcase alumni and raise the profile of EUR
  • Liaise with colleagues in EUR’s Marketing and Communications department as well as colleagues in other faculties, departments and alumni
  • Generate and manage alumni-focused content for EUR’s website and social media channels, ensuring that they are regularly updated (in line with the plan) with timely and relevant material that maximises audience engagement
  • Provide advice and support to EUR colleagues as they develop their own content to ensure a consistent tone of voice towards the university’s alumni audience.

Requirements

Required qualifications

  • Fluent or near-native Dutch and English (min. B1), written and spoken, are both required. You will be dealing with an international network of alumni, as well as Dutch suppliers and stakeholders
  • A proactive approach to identifying opportunities for improving the communications plan
  • Ability to prioritise your own workload and remain motivated
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • An interest in Higher Education and a genuine understanding of the strategic importance of alumni and supporter engagement
  • Previous experience in a communications role, writing content for print and online publications
  • Experience of analysing online metrics and digital communications.

The conditions of employment comply with the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of €2,709 up to a maximum of €4,274 (scale 10 CAO NU) gross per month, based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.

The attractive benefits package includes an end-of-year bonus of 8.3 per cent, holiday allowance of 8 per cent, extensive leave facilities for a healthy work-life balance (41 days a year based on a 40-hour work week), and a good pension fund.
