Leiden University, Faculty of Humanities is looking for an University Lecturer in Modern German and Russian Language and Literature

Job description

  • Prepare and teach courses and tutorials/seminars in the BA German Language and Culture, the BA Russian Studies, the MA Literary Studies and the MA Russian and Eurasian Studies;
  • Prepare and teach tutorials/seminars in the BA in International Studies, including Cultural Studies (language of instruction: English) and at the Leiden University College (BA);
  • Engage in all usual forms of instruction in all programmes, including supervising exams and theses;
  • Maintain an active publishing and research programme in the field of Modern German and/or Russian literature, including applying for local and international research grants;
  • Play an active role in recruiting Dutch and international students by contributing to occasional open days, orientation and information sessions;
  • Participate in the academic community of the Institute;
  • Contribute to administrative and management duties within the programmes.

Requirements

  • Completed, or almost completed, a PhD in German and/or Russian literature;
  • Strong working knowledge of cultural and literary theory;
  • Awareness of current issues, viewpoints as well as innovative methods within the field;
  • Demonstrable and outstanding teaching skills (demonstrated by teaching evaluations, teaching qualifications or courses, etc.); experience in teaching at the BA and MA level; experience with educational innovations;
  • Proven track record of independent research in the field of modern German and/or Russian literature, typically demonstrated by a substantial list of peer-reviewed publications in the field;
  • Native or near-native level of Dutch, English, German and Russian;
  • Flexible, with excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Conditions of employment

The appointment will start August 1st.We offer a 1,0 FTE position for a year, with the possibility of a permanent position. Salary range from € 3.637,- to € 4.978,- gross per month for a fulltime appointment depending on prior education and working experience (pay scale 11, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities)
