Job description

As Assistant Professor of Hispanic Culture and Literature, you will teach courses on Spanish and Latin American culture, literature and languages in the Bachelor's specialisation of Spanish, which is part of the degree programme in Romance Languages and Cultures. In addition, you will teach in several interdisciplinary Bachelor's degree courses and a variety of Dutch- and English-language Master's programmes within the Faculty of Arts, particularly in relation to the field of Hispanic Studies. You will be closely involved in the evaluation and innovation processes of the BA and MA programmes of Romance Languages and Cultures and faculty curricula and you will supervise undergraduate as well as graduate students in writing their theses.

Your research should fit in with one of the research programmes of the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH). You will develop your research ambitions at an international level. Furthermore, you will be expected to contribute to the acquisition of externally funded research projects, to write project proposals, and to participate in working groups, committees and/or project groups at the department or faculty level. You will offer administrative and organisational services, such as collaborating in the organisation of the cultural events of the Spanish programme as well as in various recruitment activities.

Requirements

  • You hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in Hispanic Culture and/or Literature.
  • You have demonstrable experience in providing university education at different levels and have experience in the supervision of Bachelor's and Master's theses.
  • You have experience in teaching non-native speakers at an academic level.
  • You have experience with and/or are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary teaching and research.
  • You hold a Dutch university teaching qualification (BKO), or are willing to obtain one within a short period of time.
  • You have an international network of scientific contacts and have ambitions in the field of research, evidenced by a publication record and project initiatives.
  • You have the ability to attract external research funding and ambition to participate in RICH.
  • You have administrative and organisational skills.
  • You have native or near-native skills in the Spanish language and preferably also in the Dutch language (both written and spoken).
  • You are proficient in English at Cambridge Certificate Level 3 or are prepared to acquire this proficiency within one year.
  • You possess the following key competences: conceptual thinking, social awareness, presenting, result orientation and initiative.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 years, with the possibility of extension.

  • Employment: 32 - 40 hours per week.
  • A maximum gross monthly salary of € 5,656 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 12).
  • The exact salary depends on the candidate's qualifications and amount of relevant professional experience.
  • In addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • Duration of the contract: 2 years, with the possibility of extension.
  • The intended start date is 1 August 2020.
