Job description

The Mathematical Institute of Leiden University invites applicants for a PhD position in Mathematical Statistics. Possible areas for the research project are: high-dimensional dependence models, time series, nonparametric statistics, machine learning, and functional data analysis. The position comes with some light teaching duties.

Requirements

  • An MSc degree in Mathematics or Computer Science or Statistics, but with a strong background in mathematics;
  • A creative and curious mind;
  • Excellent English communication and writing skills;
  • Programming experience in R or Python (knowledge of C++ is a bonus).

Conditions of employment

We offer a  full-time appointment of initially one year. After a positive evaluation of the progress of the thesis, personal capabilities and compatibility, the appointment will be extended for another three years. Salary range from € 2.325,-  to € 2.972,-  gross per month (pay scale P in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
