Are you our new Assistant Professor in Organizational Behavior and AI?

Job description

Would you love the opportunity to be a part of a group that is in the forefront for research on understanding the social and psychological aspects of using AI to study human behavior in (high-tech) organizational context? Are you passionate about contributing to scientific innovation, especially for organizational behavior and AI? As a newly appointed faculty member, you will be working in the Human Performance Management group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Next to your research quality, your educational skills are very important as you will develop and teach courses at both undergraduate and graduate level.

The past decade we are witnessing the emergence of new research domain: organizational behavior and AI. Researchers in this domain are turning to the use of big data and computational analysis to gain a better understanding of the complex and dynamic processes underlying and supporting human performance in organizations. Within the Human Performance Management Group, high quality data is currently used to understand and support people's functioning in (high-tech) organizational context. For example, how people adopt and use new technologies (e.g. robots, AI), how to enhance decision making processes in organizations (e.g. decision support systems), monitoring and supporting individual health (e.g., wearables), learning
(e.g. learning analytics), and team processes (e.g. coordination).

Human Performance Management Group

The Human Performance Management (HPM) group focuses its research and education on the optimization of the role of human resources in operational processes of performance. In other words, how should we (re-)design work and organization to obtain a high-performance organization in which employees could work effectively, healthily, and enjoyably. In this respect, we argue that the best fit between humans and work is achieved when both the human side and work side are integrally (re-)designed and (re-)developed to improve performance.

Additionally, we carefully consider how technology may play a role in this, as an application area (e.g., in high-tech industry, in robotization), as a means for conducting research (e.g., wearables), and as tool for intervention (e.g., Apps, AI-support systems) toward optimized human performance in organizations. We work closely with an extensive network of industrial and institutional partners, which provides us access to unique and challenging data. The HPM Group teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.

With the establishment of the Eindhoven Artificial Intelligence Institute (EAISI), Eindhoven University of Technology aims to leverage the huge potential of AI to
real-world applications in industrial engineering systems. Amongst others, the new institute will prioritize research into organizational applications of AI and the interaction between humans and machines. The candidate we are looking for will actively contribute to these research domains. You will be directly involved in EAISI, yet will be appointed at the Human Performance Management Group of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences.

With the new position, we aim to expand our group with an assistant professor (tenure track) to gain a better understanding of the social and psychological aspects of using AI to study human behavior in (high tech) organizational contexts. The aim will be to understand how the implementation and use of AI in organizational contexts impacts the input (e.g., talent selection), processes (e.g., collaboration, decision making), and outcomes (e.g., productivity, learning, well-being) of high tech organizations. This includes, but is not limited to research on personnel selection and gender bias reduction, human-robot teaming, AI-informed decision making, AI-adoption processes, and people analytics.

In your new role you will perform active research in the area of organizational behavior and AI.  Additionally, you will have the opportunity to teach and co-develop courses at the BSc and MSc level, with an emphasis on the interplay between organization, humans and technology in different domains.  Your participation in the teaching of PhD students and to contributing to the management of the group and the department will also be very much welcome.
