Job description

Do you want to contribute to teaching students of the Master Artificial Intelligence or Data Science? Do you want to work in a program that has been in the spotlight for years, but that has opted for quality and small-scale education? We are looking for four lecturers who will give working groups, evaluate assignments and supervise student assistants or who will coach Master thesis students.

The Master’s programs are part of the Graduate School of Informatics of the Faculty of Science.

What are you going to do?

As a lecturer, you will help in the preparation and organization of seminars, computer labs, and projects for a range of courses in our programs. This will be done in consultation with the course coordinators who are responsible for the theoretical and didactic implementation of a course. The emphasis of the lecturer positions is on supporting the practical aspects of the education within our MSc programs. Or you can coach students to guide them in working on their master's thesis.

The duties of a lecturer consist of:

  • preparing and adapting course material for project and practical groups;
  • coaching and instructing teachings assistants;
  • supervision of project and practical groups;
  • provision of feedback for weekly assignments;
  • giving lectures (dependent on qualifications);
  • support of the master thesis process (organisation as well as supervision of academic processes);
  • organisation of extracurricular activities, such as ad-hoc workshops.

Requirements

As a lecturer in the Information Sciences, you have:

  • a Master of Science degree (or PhD degree) in computer science, artificial intelligence, information science, or a related discipline;
  • good didactical and organisational skills;
  • a fluency in oral and written English;
  • a proactive and flexible attitude;
  • the ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Our offer

A temporary contract for 4 year (with a 2 months probation period) for 38 hours per week, preferably starting at 3 August 2020.    

The salary, depending on relevant work experience before the beginning of the employment contract, will be €2,709 to €4,274 (scale 10) gross per month, based on 38 hours a week. These amounts are exclusive 8 % holiday allowance and 8.3 % end-of-year bonus. A favourable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.

The Faculty of Science offers you a four-year contract, which includes 0.1 FTE dedicated to training and development. This combination of working as a lecturer while following training is called the Lecturer Development Programme (Docent Ontwikkel Programma, DOP). The purpose of the DOP is to optimise your position on the job market (deployability and opportunities) once your temporary employment comes to an end. During the course of your four-year contract, you will follow training together with other lecturers; this will include the opportunity to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). Together with your supervisor, you will draw up a Personal Development Plan (Persoonlijk Ontwikkelplan, POP) detailing the specifics of your customised programme.
