Job description

The Vision & Cognition (V&C) laboratory, led by Dr. Pieter Roelfsema, and the Molecular Visual Plasticity (MVP) laboratory, led by Dr. Christiaan Levelt, study how the visual system functions and learns. The laboratories address these questions using advanced in vivo electrophysiology and (two-photon) microscopy techniques in mice. We are looking for a Zoological technician who assists with these experiments by genotyping and administrating the mouse colony, behavioral training, performing surgeries, imaging and immunohistochemistry. You will also help with the management of the lab (ordering, administration, etc).

What are you going to do:

  • Genotyping and administration of experimental animals (mice)
  • Assistance with in vivo microscopy and electrophysiology techniques
  • Behavioral training 
  • Immunohistochemistry and imaging
  • Management of the rodent laboratory of the MVP and V&C groups

Requirements

Your skills, qualities and experience:

  • Zoological Technician with Art. 12 
  • Experience with immunohistochemistry, PCR, microsurgeries and imaging techniques 
  • Team player

Conditions of employment

Appointment: 
The position is for a period of one year initially. Pending on evaluation this may be extended for a second year and eventually become a permanent position. 

Salary: 
Depending on education and relevant work experience, the gross monthly salary based on full-time employment varies between € 2.261,- and € 3.052,- gross per month (salary scale 7, fulltime- 38 hours), in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU), excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. There are excellent fringe benefits.
