This research fellowship is devoted to developing and testing mobility management strategies in case of public transport disturbances and disruptions, applied to the city of Amsterdam. The research fellowship is a joint appointment by TU Delft and Amsterdam Institute of Advanced Metropolitan Solutions (AMS). You will be employed by TU Delft.
The objective of this research fellowship is therefore to support planners and policy makers in developing mobility plans for managing planned and long-lasting disruptions in public transport systems. This involves the development of methods to generate and assess alternative mobility management strategies and their impacts. The work will be conducted in close cooperation with local government and mobility providers. These plans aim to support the municipality of Amsterdam to react in an optimal way to planned public transport disruptions, thereby explicitly considering the availability of the infrastructure and resources, as well as the potential deployment of other mobility services and providers. As such, this contributes to the development of multimodal mobility management capabilities that allow testing strategies contributing positively towards the resilience of Amsterdam’s transportation network.
You are expected to deliver methods and strategies to support the municipality of Amsterdam in the planning of mobility management strategies in case of public transport disturbances and disruptions, in particular related to quay and bridge renewals. Examples of such methods and strategies range from agile network design to offering ride-sharing services.

Department
The post-doc position is in the Department of Transport & Planning (T&P) (about 130 members) of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences (CEG) which has a strong track record and its trademark is the use of empirical data and advanced modelling tools. T&P has a strong track record in traffic flow theory, traffic simulation, dynamic traffic management and intelligent transport systems of all transport modes, including railway, pedestrians and urban public transport. TU Delft is consistently ranked among the top 3 for the subject ‘Transportation Science & Technology’ in the Shanghai Global Academic Ranking. The faculty was ranked second in the latest QS world university ranking. More specifically, the post-doc researcher will be working closely with other members of the Smart Public Transport Lab, a group of about 25 researchers and the Integrated Digital Mobility initiative at the AMS Institute.
The candidate will work at least 3-4 days a week in Amsterdam, based at the AMS Institute.
The post-doctoral research fellow will work at the intersection of transport modelling research and application, in the context of the city of Amsterdam.
