The academy of Oriental Languages and Communication (OLC) is looking for a: Lecturer of Chinese and Chinese Culture 0.6 FTE – 0.8 FTE

Job description

  • Providing education to bachelor students in the field of  Chinese language, culture, history, society, business and trade, and current affairs, in relation to the communication workfield;
  • Providing education to bachelor students about International Awareness & Communication, with a focus on China and the Chinese culture;
  • Contributing to the innovation of the curriculum in the above-mentioned areas, including assessment and development of assessment tools;
  • Coaching and advising students during research projects and internships;
  • Coaching students as part of their academic and career counselling programme;
  • Possibly, contributing to applied research in one of the research centres.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable profound experience in providing education in Mandarin Chinese;
  • experience and affinity with the application of Mandarin Chinese in a business and communication setting;
  • extensive knowledge of and practical experience with the Chinese language and culture;
  • excellent communication skills in Dutch and English. Dutch proficiency is obliged. You are expected to use them as working languages;
  • a relevant master’s degree; like Sinology or a Chinese language-related master done in China;
  • the ability to contribute constructively to the development of an integrated curriculum within multidisciplinary teams, in relation to the developments within education and the future working field;
  • a certificate of pedagogic/didactic skills or the willingness to obtain one;
  • the ability to network and establish and maintain good relations with businesses and organizations that are relevant for the academy;
  • the willingness to travel for international events in order to represent the department;
  • ability and willingness to work in other educational tracks, based on expertise;
  • a teamplayer attitude and an entrepreneurial, customer-oriented, creative and enthusiastic mindset;
  • preferably professional or academic experience in China;
  • the ability to work professionally with digital learning environments, audiovisual material, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

  • A temporary contract, for 0.6 – 0,8 FTE, with Stichting Zuyd Hogeschool or Randstad Payrolling for the duration of one year, which may be extended based on performance and availability.
  • a salary depending on academic background and professional experience, of maximum scale 11 according to the CAO-HBO (maximum € 5,026.85 before taxes, per month, under fulltime employment).
  • for internal candidates the current contract will be respected.
