The activities of the assistant professor (UD) consists of both teaching and research. The main activity in teaching consists of contributing to the multidisciplinary, university-wide Bachelor programme “Energy Minor”. In this Minor, Bachelor students from all faculties of the University of Groningen follow a full-time educational programme on energy transition during the 1st semester. The lecturers come from 5 faculties, including Economics and Business, which faculty is also the minor coordinator. The tasks of the UD include supervising students in individual as well as group research projects from an energy-economics perspective as well as supporting in the coordination of the minor.

The research activity partly consists of contributing to externally financed research projects in the field of energy economics. The topics of this research vary from analyzing renewable support schemes, developing criteria for well-functioning hydrogen markets to making scenarios for the oil market in relation to climate policy. Besides this research for external parties, the UD is expected to work on research together with other CEER members which results in academic papers.

Requirements

To qualify you should have:

• a PhD in (Energy) Economics
• interest in energy economics as evidenced by publications in leading international journals
• organisational qualities and excellent communication skills necessary for partner research
• fluently in Dutch and English, both writing and speaking.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 months.

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

• a salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 2,790 gross per month (salary scale 10), to a maximum of € 5,127 gross per month (scale 11)
• a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income
• an 8.3% year-end bonus
• participation in a pension scheme for employees.

Candidates will be appointed for a period of one year. The percentage of research time will be about 80% and teaching time (including coordination) will be about 20%.

We expect candidates to start by 1 September 2020

Faculty of Economics and Business

The Department of Economics, Econometrics & Finance is an active and international research community, performing at the highest international level in terms of research and publications. Central research themes include: (applied) econometrics, finance, banking, insurance, health, ageing and pensions, behavioural and experimental economics, industrial organisation and energy economics and business.

The Department has Bachelor, Master and Executive courses in Energy. The energy economics research of the faculty is concentrated in the Centre for Energy Economics Research (CEER).
