Job description

Are you interested in applying techniques from machine learning to solve problems in in operations management and industrial engineering? Would you like confront real-world engineering problems using machine learning? Do you want to be part of the vibrant heart of the high-tech manufacturing cluster of the Netherlands? To apply for this position, you should have a research background in subareas of machine learning that lie on the interface with operations research (e.g. prescriptive analytics, reinforcement learning) and have an interest in applying machine learning in Operations Management. If you have a research background in operations research (or related areas) with a demonstrated interest in machine learning, then we also invite you to apply.

You will be part of the OPAC group, which traditionally has a strong presence in application domains such as logistics, maintenance optimization, manufacturing, and supply chain. You are expected to develop a research portfolio that lies on the interface between these application domains and one or more subareas of machine learning. You are also expected to contribute to the teaching activities of the OPAC group.

Requirements

We offer a stimulating and ambitious educational and research environment and are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
  • You hold a PhD in the field of computer science, operations research, econometrics research, or a comparable domain.
  • You have strong Mathematical and programming skills.
  • Ability to conduct high quality academic research, demonstrated for instance by a relevant PhD thesis and/or publication(s).
  • Ability to teach, shown by experience or assistance in teaching and positive evaluations of these teaching efforts.
  • Creative and dedicated to (multidisciplinary) collaboration.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.        
  • Excellent proficiency (written and oral) in English.
