Job description

The Strategic Human Resource Management Chair of the Department of Business Administration at the Nijmegen School of Management (Radboud University, Nijmegen, Netherlands) is seeking applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow on a project studying Leadership Development through Learning Communities. The LEADER-project (LEAder Development in Road transport) is funded by NWO's Human Capital: Future of Work Programme. The project aims to understand: a) how leadership of truck drivers can be optimised to improve sustainable employability; b) the critical success factors for developing leaders in a context of learning communities within a road transport environment; and c) how learning communities can be designed and configured to support effective, adaptive and innovative collaboration networks that effect learning and working processes of leaders in road transport. Employees in the road transport sector will be affected greatly by increased robotisation and digitalisation. Leadership is critical in developing sustainable employability among truck drivers, as it plays a crucial role in facilitating learning and development of employees. However, knowledge about leadership in road transport is scarce, and is accompanied by several constraints such as physical space (drivers are mainly on the road), and the lack of empirical data due to the lower educational levels of both drivers and leaders. As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow you will specifically study the current state of leadership development and learning communities within logistics and road transport. There are several initiatives that have already been implemented, ranging from training programmes to coaching programmes. However, these initiatives are rather ad-hoc and the effectiveness of these initiatives have not been systematically evaluated. Therefore, there is no evidence-based knowledge about which initiative works where, how and when. Furthermore, there are several initiatives for leadership development and learning communities in the logistics sector, such as Living Labs, learning networks, and Fieldlabs, which can provide input for deriving critical success factors for developing a Learning Community for Leadership Development. You will investigate what makes these learning communities successful, and what critical success factors underlie their effectiveness.
As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will complement an interdisciplinary research team at Radboud University and the Dutch Open University consisting of experts in leadership, leadership development, learning communities and networks, and online technology-enhanced learning practices.
