Job description

The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) is a young dynamic department that focuses its teaching and research on technology in the field of diagnostics and treatment. Research and education take place in collaboration with national and international research groups, and various University Medical Centres (UMCs). The teaching and research areas within the department cover the following focus areas: Chemical Biology, Regenerative Engineering and Materials and Biomedical Imaging & Modelling. The faculty offers research-driven Bachelor's and Master's programmes for approximately 1100 students, and employs approximately 200 academic staff. In addition, the department is involved in various multidisciplinary collaborations, both within the TU/e with other faculties, as well as within the Netherlands, Europe and beyond with various universities and research institutes.

As coordinating teacher supporter you are a member of the Education and Student Affairs (ESA) team of the department of Biomedical Engineering (Dutch: Biomedische Technologie). This team is responsible for the organization, coordination and support of the bachelor- and master education within the department. Together this team delivers a well-designed curriculum, educational- and exam schedules, quality assurance and adequate study advice.

Within the department you work in close collaboration with our other teacher supporter and other members of the ESA team, like the quality assurance officer, the scheduler and student administration employees. Of course you invest in and maintain an inspiring alliance with the teaching staff, the program director and manager ESA. At the university wide level you will cooperate with the central ESA teacher support team. You will be responsible for both the coordination and support of the bachelor- and master education within the department.   • Coordination, organization and support of bachelor and master education activities within the department. With a strong focus on improving the current curriculum and educational concept.
  • Active organization of staffing (teachers, PhDs and student assistants) and facilities to achieve an effective educational process, both logistically and financially.
  • Responsible for and providing of the information flow to our students via diverse channels like study guides and websites.
  • Coordination and optimization of educational support processes like Bachelor and Master projects, professional development and employability.
  • Supporting the teaching staff to (re-)design courses and projects thereby safeguarding and overseeing the entire curriculum.
  • Responsible for selecting and guiding the integration of digital-learning, blended-learning and challenge-based learning approaches.
  • Supporting the teaching staff in the development of educational materials and selection of teaching, feedback and assessment methods.

Requirements

We are looking for an experienced educational specialist who combines a strong affinity for biomedical research with novel educational concepts to shape and coordinate a future proof educational program within our department.
  • You are an academic trained education specialist or a biomedical scientist with proven affinity and experience in higher education. 
  • You have the ability and ambition to provide the quality service that meets the organization's objectives and responds to the changing needs.

  • You are didactically well equipped and show a leading attitude.
  • You have experience and affinity with educational IT tools.
  • You have excellent communicative skills both in Dutch and English.

Conditions of employment

We offer a 0.8 - 1.0 FTE appointment for the position. Depending experience, the salary will be at least € 2790,- and at most € 4402,- gross per month (salary scale 10) for full-time employment in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. We offer a temporary appointment for a period of one year. If the performance is good and the financial conditions remain the same, the contract of employment can be extended. In addition, we offer good secondary benefits, including an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, a holiday allowance of 8% and excellent sports facilities.
