Job description

We are looking for an all-round project manager for supporting the establishment of the newly established UNIC European University Alliance. UNIC is a European University network of Post-Industrial Cities, forming an alliance between 8 universities; Erasmus University Rotterdam (coordinator), Ruhr University Bochum (Germany), Koc University Istanbul (Turkey), University of Deusto (Bilbao, Spain), University of Zagreb (Croatia), University of Liege (Belgium) and Oulu University (Finland).

The aim of the first phase of the UNIC alliance project is to establish a structural and university-wide collaboration that should bring unique European learning, teaching and working experiences to students, staff and researchers from all 8 universities.

UNIC will develop activities in the area of mobility, impact and inclusion. Regarding mobility, UNIC will promote real, virtual and blended forms of mobility amongst the universities, in the form of collaborations between existing programs as well as the establishment of new programs. Regarding impact, UNIC will bring a strategic alliance with the 8 post-industrial cities involved, and bring together teaching, research and practitioners in design oriented CityLabs. Regarding inclusion, UNIC will promote the development of intercultural models for high education, including trainings, outreach events (UNIC@School) and the establishment of a UNIC Superdiversity Academy.

The project manager will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the UNIC team of 5-6 persons leading the implementation of UNIC at EUR and at the other universities
  • Managing the communication channels of UNIC, including website, social media and flyers. You will be involved both in content, design and production of communication output. 
  • Providing practical support to various UNIC activities in the area of mobility, inclusion and impact. This can include organizing conferences/meetings, setting up CityLabs and organizing training sessions
  • Providing support in the financial management of the project (together with a financial controller and an EU project manager)

Your position will be embedded in the Strategy Office of EUR General Affairs. The position will have a one-year trial period and can then be extended to a period of three years.

Requirements

We are looking for someone with the following qualifications:

  • You have a degree or extensive working experience in a communication related field
  • You can translate communication strategies and tactics into tangible action
  • You have strong organizational skills; you are result oriented and focused on getting things done
  • You have experience working in an international and multicultural environment
  • You are an excellent, clear communicator with demonstrated ability to communicate and coordinate among internal and external stakeholders of various levels and backgrounds
  • You are a very pro-active person who is willing and capable of pioneering new initiatives 
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication and storytelling skills in English
  • You master English at C1, C2 level and if non-Dutch you communicate in Dutch at B2 level.

 

Conditions of employment

The conditions of employment comply with the collective labor agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). We offer a 0,8 – 1,0 fte contract, initially for 1 year. In case of good performance, the contract can be extended to three years. Salary is subject to educational background and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 3.746 (scale 11 CAO NU) gross per month and up to a maximum of € 6.317 gross per month (scale 13 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.

Erasmus University Rotterdam offers attractive terms of employment, including a holiday allowance of 8%, a year-end payment of 8.3% and 41 holidays per year based on a full-time appointment. In addition, EUR takes part in the ABP pension scheme, and we also offer partially paid parental leave. Moreover, EUR staff members can make use of the EUR facilities, including the Erasmus Sports Centre and the University Library.

Strategy Office

The Strategy Office (SO) guides the EUR in its transition to an impact-oriented university in order to jointly realize its mission: 'creating positive societal impact'. As a central department, the SO is integrally responsible for the implementation (including progress and monitoring) of the strategy in collaboration with central policy departments, faculties, services and academics, or project leads on the various projects and programs. The SO develops, drives, monitors and supports the EUR in order to realize the strategic ambitions in co-creation with the entire community.  To facilitate involvement and co-creation, it invests in a strategic communication approach, an appropriate engagement strategy and supportive leadership development.

The SO is part of the General Management Department (ABD), which as a central staff department is responsible for the organisation of policy support at an institutional level. The ABD supports the Executive Board (CvB) in exercising its responsibility for the quality, accessibility and funding of education and research.
