Job description

Team Applied Spatial Research is looking for an enthusiastic candidate to enforce the software development capacity in the team. In this position you will participate in research projects with a strong ICT component. You work together with other software developers in our team and other teams. You will also collaborate with researchers within the WUR but also from other organisations, national and international. Supporting our broad and interdisciplinary research, you will work on a diversity of topics in the domains nature, agriculture and the living environment.

Your tasks will cover all aspects of software engineering, focussing on implementation, but also including design, testing and documentation. Our ICT work is diverse, and projects and development teams are usually small or medium size. This means we expect you to be flexible, able to manage more than one project at the same time and able and willing to master more than just one development environment and where required both back- and frontend, although focus will lie on frontend development. You will have the chance to join state-of-art projects, following the newest developments in software engineering, like big data technologies, functional programming (languages), machine learning etc.

Requirements

  • university of applied science degree, MSc degree in informatics or comparable;
  • at least 1 - 3 years working experience in software development (Python, JavaScript (e.g. ExtJS), Java, .NET);
  • preferably experience in handling of (large) spatial datasets;
  • knowledge of relational database systems;
  • experience and/or interest in one or more of the following is a pro: (open source) GIS, (Spatial) statistics, AI and machine/deep learning, distributed, cloud computing, Docker, Linux;
  • proficiency in English;
  • team player but also able to work independently and take responsibility;
  • able to perform in a challenging and dynamic environment.

Conditions of employment

A challenging position for at least 32 hours a week, starting with a temporary contract. Extension of that contract depends on proven suitability and the scope of the order portfolio.
The salary is between 2790 and 5183 euro gross per month, depending on experience (scale 10-11) on a full-time basis (36 hours). Furthermore, we offer excellent secondary terms of employment, for example a structural -end-of- year bonus and flexibility in many respects. Good opportunities for training and education.

The Team Applied Spatial Research is a dedicated team of experts helping clients to translate spatial data of high information content to policy and business visions that can make a difference. The team consists of 20 experts on data quality, spatial analyses, visualization, application design and information management, applied to challenges in the domains of nature, agriculture and the living environment. The binding concept of this team is spatial data with focus on the ' fitness for use' principle: always take care that the solution is usable.
