The Assistant Professorships serve to deepen the collaboration between the University and the Halle Insti- tute for Economic Research (IWH). The IWH is one of the seven economic research institutes of the Leibniz Association in Germany (www.iwh-halle.de). The IWH focuses on research in finance, macroeconomics, and productivity and innovation. The two Assistant Professorships are intended to strengthen the joint research focus in Finance of the IWH and the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. They will join the IWH’s Financial Markets Department or the new department on Laws, Regulations and Factor Markets at the IWH.

We expect the candidate to have a strong interest in teaching and research in Financial Economics. Pre- ferred will be candidates with a focus on

• the interaction between the financial system and the real economy
• the interaction between finance and labour

A quantitative research approach and experience with the latest empirical methods, as well as a desire to apply economic research to policy questions are desirable.

The requirements for both positions are: the completion of a PhD in Economics or Finance by summer of 2021 at the latest, the potential for successful publications in international journals, and ideally an existing network of international research collaborations. It is expected that the candidates will teach in the Faculty’s Bachelor and Masters Programmes. While knowledge of German is desirable, it is not a require- ment for the position.

Fixed-term contract: 3 years, may be extended by a further three years given a positive evaluation.

The employees are assigned the status of civil servants with limited tenure (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit). The contract will initially be limited to three years, and may be extended by a further three years given a positive evaluation.

Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) – Member of the Leibniz Association

The IWH is one of the seven economic research institutes of the Leibniz Association in Germany. It focuses on research in structural change and productivity, finance, and macroeconomics. The Professorship will assume the position of a Research Advisor associated with the Department of Financial Markets and a new department “Laws, Regulation, and Factor Markets”, which focuses on studying the interaction of these economic fields.
