Job description

The Hot Politics Lab is looking for a postdoctoral researcher who works on the broad theme of emotions and politics. We are specifically looking for a researcher who can extend our existing projects and who brings new expertise and new insights to the team. We are particularly thinking of candidates with expertise in quantitative text analysis, multimodal emotion recognition, physiology or survey experiments, but are also open to other expertise. The candidate also has a proven track-record with emotion research. Finally, we are looking for someone with an open science mentality and a willingness to collaborate.

What will you be doing?

The postdoctoral researcher may propose an independent line of research within the broader context of the theme of emotions and politics. This may or may not be in collaboration with other researchers in the lab. We offer access to research facilities both offline (lab equipment) and online (large scale data collection). There is also a, limited, budget to facilitate this line of research. We expect the postdoctoral researcher to play an active role in the lab in terms of attending meetings, organizing meetings and supporting PhD students and interns.

Requirements

You have:

  • obtained – or are close to - a PhD diploma in political science, psychology, communication science or a dissertation on the topic of emotions and politics. You need to have defended your dissertation prior to your starting date;
  • a demonstrated ability to work on the topic of emotions and politics;
  • a demonstrated ability to work with a range of relevant techniques;
  • a demonstrated ability to work with an open science workflow;
  • experience with interdisciplinary exchanges.

You are:

  • interested in working in an interdisciplinary lab;
  • open to engaging with new approaches and working with people with various backgrounds.

Conditions of employment

Our offer

The position concerns a temporary employment of 38 hours per week for a term of approximately 16 months in total. The intended starting date of the position will be in consultation, but no later than 1 April 2021, and not earlier than 1 December 2020.

Salary depends on past education and relevant work experience, with a salary of €3,746 gross per month based on full-time employment for a 38-hour working week, in keeping with scale 11.0 from the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. We additionally offer an extensive package of secondary employee benefits, including a generous holiday scheme and year-end bonus.
