Job description

As a result of ongoing technological developments, both education and research are becoming increasingly digitized. Moreover, both education and research are moving towards "Open Education" and "Open Science" respectively. Libraries worldwide are shaping their supporting role in line with these trends. The current Corona crisis and the importance of accessible and available research and education output has further reinforced this.

In this position you combine two roles. The first role focuses on education. Academic education is becoming more and more 'blended', which requires the incorporation of newer methods and tools. Every year, UUL provides more than 400 training courses and workshops for students, lecturers and researchers, including training courses in the field of information literacy (such as searching and finding literature and data). As a specialist in education you know how to put didactic knowledge into practice. Together with your colleagues from team Learning, you support colleagues in the development and design of (online) training courses and modules. You make sure these training courses are aligned with the faculty curriculums. In addition, you take initiative in the development of services regarding Open Education. You initiate activities to inform and advise teachers about making educational output accessible and available - such as digital lectures, knowledge clips and teaching materials - for (re)use. You work closely with partners within Utrecht University who are engaged in educational support and innovation.

The second role of your position focuses on the education and research community. The library is experimenting with setting up “Labs”; physical places where (prospective) researchers can learn, meet and collaborate. Here you will play a pivotal role for current and future cooperation partners for the soon to be initiated “Living Lab”, in the UUL at Utrecht Science Park. The Living Lab will be a lively place which offers space for exchange, experimentation or training in all forms of digital science. You will facilitate an ongoing and varied programme for and by researchers and students. You will take the lead, keep eyes and ears open for new initiatives, actively participate, ensure a good organization, inspire people and connect. You are going to work closely with colleagues within the University Library and other support services such as Information & Technology Services (ITS).

Your tasks:

  • supporting and advising colleagues within the library in designing (online) training courses and workshops, and contributing to the creation of (online) training modules as well;
  • you have insight into the important trends in the field of (academic) education and research and are able to translate these into new library services. In addition, you will also keep your colleagues within the UUL up-to-date about these developments;
  • developing the Living Lab, among other things, by developing and facilitating a wide variety of activities in the Lab. With an active communication plan you contribute to the reputation of the Living Lab;
  • building and maintaining a relevant network of relationships and collaboration with partners within Utrecht University.
