The University of Twente (UT) invites scholars with an excellent research and teaching record to apply for the position of Full Professor Science, Technology & Society (STS) in the department Technology, Policy, Society (TPS), School of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences (BMS).

The challenge

Are you up for the challenge to lead STS activities in a high-tech interdisciplinary environment? We offer an exciting opportunity for inspiring researchers with a strong vision on the future of STS and its relevance for society!

The STS professor leads the Science, Technology and Policy Studies group (STEPS). Its current research program advances knowledge about the co-evolution of society, technology and nature around key enabling technologies. We invite the new chair-holder to build upon current research on  the governance of science, technology and innovation, constructive technology assessment, and the dynamics of science and technology in society. We encourage the advancement of methodological foundations in foresight, co-creation and design, citizen participation and novel data driven methods, and a strengthening of broader impact of the results.

The STEPS group is part of the department of Technology, Policy, Society (TPS), which includes groups in the philosophy of science and technology, higher education studies, health technology and care, environmental and energy systems. Recently the department initiated the platform ‘Strategic Intelligence for Digitalization of Societal Domains’ (SI4DS). We seek to boost our role as ‘watch tower’ for Grand Challenges and encourage societal groups, innovators and policy actors through research, education and expertise.

Within the department, we work closely with the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) on the dynamics and organization of scientific and high tech knowledge within innovation ecosystems.

Responsibilities

You take responsibility for inspiring and inclusive team management, contribute to the mission of the university as people first, high tech university and advance the Twente position within the international STS field.

Through growing own expertise, exploring novel research methods, engaged supervising PhD students and acquiring funding from national and international sources, you invigorate our STS research.

You develop a strong STS education portfolio including UT cross-cutting undergraduate education, participation in BMS master programmes, and formats of continuing and professional education.

Through interactions with societal groups, policy makers, innovators and other partners you create impact.
