Job description

Apollo Tyres is one of world’s biggest tyre manufacturers. The enterprise has manufacturing units in India, The Netherlands and Hungary. Research & Development (R&D) within Apollo Tyres has over 300 engineers working mainly in Enschede, The Netherlands. R&D activities include Material science, Simulations technology, Design & Construction, CAE/FEA, Process development and Testing. The development process is strongly linked to Manufacturing, Marketing and Sales.
Apollo Tyres R&D has developed a Tyre Specification Tool, which is used by tyre engineers to describe tyre specifications. This tyre engineering tool presents several usability and maintainability challenges, thus limiting tyre engineers when performing their tasks. You will address these challenges in the PDEng project, considering the use cases of Apollo Tyres R&D.

Are you passionate about high-end technological design? Do you want to continue developing your skills with a combination of education and work?
The Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) programme Business & IT offers you a 2-year position combining post MSc education and a design project to be carried out at Apollo Tyres.
The educational programme, carried out at the University of Twente, will have an in-depth and broadening character with ample attention for professional development and will be partly tailored to the design project. In collaboration with Apollo Tyres you will work on high level, creative new designs for complex issues.

The project – Web-based Tyre Engineering System:

  • Your main goal is to develop a reliable distributed architecture as a web-based application that combines the functionalities of multiple programs. The exact functionalities of this system will be discussed in the beginning of the project.
  • The application needs to be “future proof”, meaning that it has to be flexible to add new functionalities in the future. In particular, the application needs to: (1) support data security and privacy; (2) be interoperable, being able to communicate to systems (legacy). and existing databases for data exchange, such as DBMS: Oracle, Postgres, MS-SQL Server; (3) be user friendly and guide a tyre engineer to the whole product lifecycle management (PLM) process.
  • You will use techniques like web-based software engineering and architecture of information systems, e.g., behaviour and structural modelling, and other modelling and software engineering techniques to develop the system.
  • You will cooperate with Apollo Tyres R&D, covering performance and technology aspects of Apollo Tyres’ products and services.
