The Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) Research Group of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) has a vacancy for a tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Circular Economy.

Job description

The current linear economy based on the unlimited extraction of limited resources and the accompanying high levels of pollution is unsustainable. The challenges posed by climate change, environmental degradation, overconsumption, waste and pollution require a re-orientation towards circularity. A circular economy, built on the regeneration of resources within and among businesses and industries, focuses on getting as much value as possible from existing resources and decoupling economic growth from resource extraction and pollution. National and international shifts from linear to circular economies signal new responsibilities and opportunities for businesses operating domestically and globally.

The position is affiliated with the research group Innovation & Entrepreneurship and the Amsterdam School of International Business (AMSIB), both part of the Faculty of Business & Economics of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS). AMSIB offers an International Business bachelor programme taught in English. Social responsibility, ethics, sustainability and circularity are hallmarks of the programme.

The Assistant Professor of Circular Economy will deliver on the following points:

  • Participates in (ongoing and new) research projects on circular economy, such as circular business models, cross-sector collaboration, energy transition.
  • Initiates and executes research and education projects of an interdisciplinary nature
  • Develops and Integrates new concepts from research output into educational activities, programmes and curricula
  • Disseminates research results to various stakeholders including professionals, students and academics
  • Produces high-quality scholarly research that can be published in peer-reviewed journals
  • Teaches at the undergraduate and graduate levels on subjects such as circular economy, sustainable business models, global supply chains, innovation
  • Contributes proactively and collegially to the development of the I&E and AMSIB and its international visibility

Requirements

The Assistant Professor position requires:

  • A (nearly completed or ABD) doctoral degree (PhD or DBA) in the area of circular economy, sustainability, innovation, (collaborative) innovation or entrepreneurship
  • Affinity with engaged scholarship and action-based, practitioner-oriented research
  • Demonstrated ability in teaching excellence and experience in blended learning or e-learning 
  • Evidence of (potential) publications in peer-reviewed journals in related fields
  • Experience in industry or entrepreneurship is desirable
  • An entrepreneurial attitude and proactive engagement in the School’s development
  • Ability to engage students in research and to integrate research into teaching
  • Ability to develop as a leader in academic applied research and in teaching
  • Excellent communication skills in English

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: One year with possible extension to a tenure track period of 5 years thereafter.

This position initially offers a contract for a period of one year with possible extension to a tenure track period of 5 years thereafter. The position is based on salary scale 12 of the Collective Employment Agreement of the Dutch Universities (CAO HBO). The gross salary per month is between € 4.445 - € 5.717, based on a full-time contract and dependent on education and experience.
The HvA has an extensive package of secondary employment conditions, including a generous vacation scheme and a 13th month.

With a research team of about 20 professors, (senior) researchers and PhD candidates, the I&E research group works on projects in sustainable urban economic growth, social and sustainable entrepreneurship, circular strategies and business models, and collaborative inter-organizational innovation.
