Job description

The Department of Applied Economics in the Erasmus School of Economics invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Economics and Values. The appointment is for three years.

You will have a PhD in Economics and expertise in behavioural economics, with a focus on empirical analysis ranging from experimental data to survey data. You will have latitude to follow your own research agenda, although collaboration with faculty and PhD students in the Department of Applied Economics is expected, as well as participating in interdisciplinary research activities within the Centre for Relational Economics, Values & Leadership. The position is research focused with a reduced teaching load with 40% for teaching and 60% for research.

Requirements

The successful candidate is expected to hold a recently acquired Ph.D. in Economics or Econometrics with demonstrated research expertise in behavioural economics, experimental economics and/or cognitive economics. The researcher should have a strong interest in measuring the distinction between preferences and values as meta-preferences and uncovering the causal relationship between choices and values, especially in the context of leadership. The position requires strong quantitative skills and an ability to handle and manage data sets. Candidates should demonstrate strong potential for high-level international publications, excellent proficiency in the English language.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 3 years.

  • The appointment will be to the position of postdoctoral research fellow for a period of 3 years. Remuneration will be in accordance with scale 11 set by the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).
  • Fulltime work (38 hours per week) will pay between € 3.746, and € 5.127 depending on the experience of the candidate.
  • EUR pays an 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year payment of 8.3% and offers excellent secondary benefits, like a very generous leave scheme. Furthermore, EUR is affiliated with ABP for the pension provision and we offer partially paid parental leave. Employees can also use EUR facilities, such as the Erasmus sports center and the University library.

At ESE, research in economics and values is facilitated through the Erasmus Centre for Relational Economics, Values & Leadership (ECRVL) which is a co-operation of the Department of Applied Economics and the Erasmus Institute of Business Economics. The core group consists of Lans Bovenberg and Bas van Os. Lans Bovenberg is Professor of Relational Economics, Values and Leadership at Erasmus University Rotterdam, and Professor of Economics at Tilburg University. Bas van Os is director of ECRVL.
