Job description

As Assistant Professor of Communication and New Media you will join the staff of the department of Language and Communication, serving its BA and MA programmes in Communication and Information Studies as well as its Research Master's programme in Linguistics and Communication Sciences. You will conduct research within the Centre for Language Studies. We are specifically looking for a colleague with teaching and research expertise in the broad discipline of Communication and New Media, including areas such as language in media communication, social media communication, new media information technology, e-health and e-learning. You have teaching and research expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. 
You will teach courses in the Bachelor's and Master's tracks of Communication in Organisations, International Business Communication, and Communication and Persuasion, on topics such as social media communication; persuasive communication technology and influencing; online branding and content marketing; online medical humanities; and online learning. You will also supervise students writing their papers and theses. Your research will be located in one of the world's leading Language and Communication research institutes, i.e. Radboud University's Centre for Language Studies. You will contribute to empirical research in CLS's focus areas, particularly in Discourse and Communication. You will also pursue grant application opportunities. In addition, you will be expected to participate in the department's administrative tasks. You will participate in and chair working groups, committees and/or (research) project groups within the department or faculty.

Requirements

  • An MA degree in Linguistics, Communication and Information Studies, Communication Science, Media Studies, or in a related discipline.
  • A PhD degree in Language and Media, Communication and Media, Health Communication and Media, or a related subject.
  • High proficiency in the English language (C2-CEFR).
  • Proficiency in Dutch: if Dutch is not your mother tongue, we expect proficiency in Dutch at the C1 level within two years after appointment.
  • Demonstrable experience in academic teaching at BA and MA levels and course development.
  • A good publication track record within the domain of Language and Media, Communication and Media, Health Communication and Media, in international refereed journals of high quality.
  • Familiarity with Dutch academic context.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 3 years.

  • Employment: 0.8 FTE.
  • A maximum gross monthly salary of € 5,826 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 12).
  • The exact salary depends on the candidate's qualifications and amount of relevant professional experience.
  • In addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • Duration of the contract: 3 years.
  • The intended start date is 1 August 2021, or as soon as possible.

Faculty of Arts

The Faculty of Arts employs over 500 academic and support staff in the fields of history and art, languages and cultures, and linguistics and communication. Research is embedded in two faculty research institutes: the Centre for Language Studies (CLS) and the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH).
