Job description

Are you a skilled bioinformatician? Do you have a strong background in large-scale 'omics' data such as comparative genomics, metagenomics, proteomics or phylogenetics? Do you have profound knowledge about microbiology? Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is looking for a Bioinformatician in Microbiology. You can join our team in the laboratory of microbiology!

Bioinformatics analyses of large biological datasets is becoming an intricate part of our research and education activities within the Laboratory of Microbiology. Therefore, we are looking for an enthusiastic, skilled bioinformatician to support large-scale data analyses, such as metagenomics, comparative genomics and proteomics. You are expected to have experience in setting up and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines and databases, and with data management. As a bioinformatician, you are a proactive team player that can work independently if needed, and engage with professionals within the Microbiology (MIB) chairgroup, as well as in adjoining groups/fields.

Requirements

For this position we request:
  • A PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational biology, or a related field;
  • computational competences in Python, Perl, Matlab and/or R, and familiarity with Linux shell environment;
  • experience in analyses of large-scale omics datasets, preferentially related to microbiological systems, and in setting up and maintenance of computational pipelines and databases;
  • knowledge of (linux) server and data management, and version control systems (such as Git);
  • sound knowledge of microbiology;
  • experience in interacting with experimental microbiologists;
  • affinity with teaching and preferably with course development and development of teaching modules;
  • the ability to work in teams, but also independently if needed;
  • fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary between € 3217,- and € 4402,- (scale 10) for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10).
