Job description

Are you the PhD fellow on Food Structure and Energy Intake who will find innovative, evidence based solutions for the design of attractive foods that moderate energy intake? You will work at the crossroads of Human Nutrition, Sensory Science and Food Design at one of the most pressing nutritional issues of our society, i.e. the growing prevalence of overweight and obesity.

As an enthusiastic PHD fellow you work in the context of the TKI-Agrifood funded project Restructure, and you will:
  • Design and conduct a human trial to investigate the role of food structure on eating rate, satiation and energy intake;
  • develop and test mathematical models that predict eating rate and energy intake from food structural and compositional parameters;
  • compose evidence-based food design rules for food structures to moderate energy intake that can be applied by food industry.
We are looking for someone with excellent organizational skills and affinity for both nutrition/eating behaviour and food technology. The Junior Researcher will present this work on conferences and through scientific publications and supervise MSc students working on this topic.

Requirements

  • A university degree (MSc) in a relevant field (e.g., Nutrition and Health, Food Technology);
  • affinity and demonstrable experience with experimental studies on eating behavior;
  • good communication skills, good control of Dutch, English (both verbally and written);
  • excellent organizational skills;
  • experience or interest in mathematical modelling techniques;
  • strong internal drive to excel and succeed.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will receive a fully funded PhD position and you will be offered a course program tailored to your needs and the research team.
The gross salary for the first year is € 2.395,- per month rising to € 3.061,- in the fourth year in according to the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale P). This is based on a full-time working week of 38 hours. We offer a temporary contract for 18 months which will be extended for the duration of the project if you perform well.
