Job description

The Department of Water Management is actively looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic (Tenure-Track) Assistant Professor in the field of “bio-process engineering in (waste)water treatment” with good knowledge on microbial ecology engineering and microbial conversion processes,    and/or microbial health risk to contribute to our education and research program starting in 2021.

The key job responsibilities of the successful candidate include:

  • Education: Organizing, initiating and contributing to the development and teaching of graduate courses in our new MSc Environmental Engineering. Supervising BSc and MSc students, preparing and assessing student projects, assignments and exam papers and sharing the workload in the group.
  • Research: Delivering high quality, internationally leading research related to bio-process engineering applied to (waste)water treatment. The research area includes, but is not restricted to, complex microbial communities in engineered systems applied for the treatment of wastewater, drinking water and industrial process water. (Co-)supervising PhD and MSc students and bringing them to a successful completion and disseminating research outcomes effectively via internationally leading journals and conferences.
  • Valorization: Initiating projects and obtaining funding for new research and/or education projects. We encourage proactive engagement with both private and government sectors, i.e. industry, business and community partners for societal the impact.
  • Organization: Contributing to organizational / administrative activities and committees within the Department of Water Management and the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences.

 

The Department of Water Management focuses on wide range of issues across the full water cycle. The objectives of the research are to understand water availability and water use, as well as water quality, treatment and transport, and to translate this knowledge into practical technologies and methods. In 2018, an external research assessment committee rated the department of Water Management as ‘excellent’ on all three topics reviewed: quality of research, viability and societal relevance. The department currently has 30 FTE academics (tenured) and over 100 PhD students and postdocs. The current portfolio of Dutch, EU, industrial and other research projects is worth 28 million €. The research of Sanitary Engineering section (where the successful candidate will be located) addresses a wide range of topics across the urban water cycle including water extraction, storage, purification and distribution; wastewater and storm water collection, transport, treatment and discharge; resource recovery from water; industrial water; urban water management and drainage. Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 6 Years.

A tenure-track position is offered for six years. In the fifth year we’ll decide if you will be offered a permanent faculty position, based on performance indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment. We expect that you have the potential to grow towards an Associate Professor and/or Full Professor role in the future.

Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ programme.
