Job description

The Institute for Science in Society (ISiS) is looking for an Assistant Professor of Philosophy of Science and Technology (tenure track) who wants to strengthen our team and contribute to our joint mission to analyse, assess and improve the societal embedding of science and technology.

As an Assistant Professor of Philosophy of Science and Technology (tenure track) you teach courses in the philosophy of science and technology to science students at BSc and MSc levels. In addition, you will supervise thesis writing, especially by MSc students in our Science in Society programme. Next to teaching, you will carry out high-quality, internationally visible research that will contribute to the research line of our Institute for Science in Society (ISiS). You will be expected to publish in international journals, and attract external research funding from governmental, European and/or private institutions. Moreover, you will co-supervise PhD candidates, build international networks, and contribute to management and administration tasks.

As a philosopher within ISiS you have a strong interest in conceptual as well as ethical and societal issues related to science and technology, and in empirical studies of science. Moreover, you are willing and able to work in an interdisciplinary team, and collaborate with social scientists (within ISiS) and with natural scientists (within the Faculty of Science).
