Eindhoven University of Technology is looking for a PhD candidate with a background in Industrial Engineering, Marketing, or Service Management interested in empirical quantitative research with practical relevance in the area of servitization.

Job description

Short description of the PhD Project
Cost-plus pricing is the most widespread pricing method. Despite some limitations (e.g., discouragement of efficiency and cost containment), there is no pricing method that is easier to communicate or justify, and it is simple to implement. However, while cost should be considered in every pricing strategy, significant changes in the business environment (i.e., shift to service-based economies) have enforced companies to consider service offerings, service pricing, and contracting for services. As a result, the concepts of value-based selling and pricing and performance-based contracting are gaining traction.
The aim of this PhD project is to provide ASML key inputs to move forward in growing services in the service-centric business era and to not miss out on opportunities of capturing more value from a service-growth strategy. By completion of this PhD project, ASML will have insights into their service portfolio and understand whether customers value the different service offerings and, if so, what aspects of the services they value most.

Job description
You, as a successful applicant, will perform the PhD project outlined above in an international team and in close collaboration with ASML. Because of this close collaboration, you are expected to work two days per week at ASML, located in Veldhoven. The research will be concluded with a PhD thesis. You will be supervised by Prof.dr. Geert-Jan van Houtum and dr. Néomie Raassens. A limited teaching load is also part of the job.

ASML
For this project, we will closely collaborate with ASML (see https://www.asml.com), a tech company and the innovation leader in the semiconductor industry. ASML provides leading patterning solutions that drive the advancement of microchips. The main pillars of the organization are R&D, manufacturing, and customer support.

Group
For this PhD position, two groups are involved: the Innovation, Technology Entrepreneurship & Marketing group (ITEM) and the Operations Planning, Accounting & Control group (OPAC). The ITEM group focusses on understanding and improving new business and product development processes by combining a management and engineering perspective to capture the complexity and multidisciplinary nature of these processes. The research within the OPAC group focuses on the smart control of operational processes in manufacturing, maintenance, supply chains and transport. Research is generally quantitative in nature, while many of the researchers also engage in empirical research.
