Job description

We are seeking to hire a professor in connection with the new ‘Advanced Learning Technology & Analytics’ for higher education’ research group, which has yet to be formed. If you are the candidate we are looking for, you will - in addition to setting up this research group - serve as a discussion partner for educators and the supporting services with regard to the deployment of advanced technology and learning analytics in our education. You are an innovator and thought leader. You will involve students in the research, establish collaborative partnerships and initiate experiments with innovative lecturers. Along with the Learning Technology & Analytics research group, you will generate new insights into how advanced learning technology (such as AI) impacts the visible and invisible learning and development processes of students and professionals, in order to enhance both the quality and inclusiveness of our education.

General description of the research group & position
The research group falls under the Faculty of IT & Design and is part of the Global & Inclusive Learning Centre of Expertise. The research in this Centre of Expertise combines a focus on learning technology with educational, social, psychological and anthropological perspectives and therefore also addresses issues of inclusiveness, participation, talent development, global citizenship and ethics. This makes the research group - and therefore The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) - an innovative player in this field of research.
As a professor, you are a connecting person: you cooperate with colleagues and students from the service units and faculties at THUAS, develop long-term relationships with other universities of applied sciences and work to link THUAS’ research priorities with other national and international research programmes. You will provide inspiring leadership to a (yet to be established) interdisciplinary research group of lecturer-researchers. Together with them, you will conduct practice-oriented research. What sets this research group apart is that a substantial portion of the research is informed directly by crucial questions arising within our education and organisation.

A professor initiates new research projects and collaborations and presents and publishes the results of research. You will supervise lecturer-researchers as they carry out research projects. You will offer students opportunities to contribute to the research being done within the research group, for instance via graduation research projects. You will actively contribute to public discourse on issues in connection with the digitisation of education. And in order to further expand the research group and finance new research, you will acquire external funding.

Additional tasks of this research group include:

  • Identifying and facilitating the application of relevant new technological developments in our educational practice.
  • Providing methodological support for the deployment of learning analytics and contributing to evidence-informed education.
  • Conducting experiments with the Blended Learning Lab, for example the introduction of new technologies.
  • Collaborating with the research groups in the Global & Inclusive Learning Centre of Expertise on grant proposals and research projects.
